TracQuest/Rennlist DE Event Reviewed

We have had some requests (OK - a "lot of requests"!) to put up some pics of the recent TracQuest/Rennlist Drivers Education Event at The Glen. My thanks to James Bricken for sending up his pictures - and combined with the ones Jen and I took - we have a fairly large compilation. Also (and in spite of some disparaging remarks made about me personally:-) I also added some of the attendees comments posted from within Rennlist. You can see these pictures and comments from the link on the front page at:

http://www.rennlist.com - enjoy!!!

In retrospect, here are some of my personal "rambles" about the event (some will require that "you were there" to completely appreciate:-)...

- Never listen to the weather forecasters about a 3 day prospect for rain at the Glen - we had an hour of rain in three days...

- Now I'm spoiled. Every event I go to I'll expect a fully catered lunch and free beverages throughout the day...

- OUR COMBINED THANKS TO ALL THE SPONSORS!!! They are: The Racer's Group, Imagine Auto, Ian's Euro Parts and Tweeks... Without these folks, it would have been the infamous "Stop Here and Get Gas" Glen trackside restaurant...

- Nick Amos stops in a straight line under adverse and "somewhat blinding" conditions...

- Rumour has it that Rick Betterley hit 140MPH on the back straight - YOOO HOOO! Not even Todd was that fast!!!...

- Always invite Jason Judd to dinner when the waitresses appear to be somewhat hostile...

- You are really dumb to think you can beat a 450+HP V-8 converted 914 on the back straight...

- Ed Villela's 914 Turbo really cranks - especially after it makes it a full lap around the track.. (heh, heh, heh)....

- James Bricken. What more can I say? What more dare I say??:-)

- NEVER, NEVER be the instructor to a fellow by the name of "Herb" in a white BMW 740i. The creature comforts in that car will spoil you forever... (A true conversation between Herb and I after a session... "So Herb, after your first day - anything you are going to upgrade on your BMW?". "Yep - after 40 years of marriage, I'm considering upgrading my wife to a newer model who appreciates drivers education and doesn't complain about the passengers seat being too hard".. Honest - Herb said that...)

- Never tell Fred Jacobberger he could drive faster during the Instructors track orientation...

- Chad Henry's smile and laugh is infectious - I would know, he was laughing at me while I was taking him around the track..

- Patricia Overell takes the award for driving distance to this event. Yep - she drove from California...

- Wil Firch - what a great person..!!! However, he is somewhat deluded about who I look like...

- Greg Skalla swears that his 911S has the original unmodified 2.7 engine. Sure, Greg...

- Peter Sullivan's 951 has been nicknamed the "red bullet". I had a chance to see Peter about twice per session - or as often as I could throw him a passing
signal...

- To Daniel on the Rennlist Audi20V list - sorry about the lack of rain, as I know you wanted it to show us sorry Porsche owners how an Audi handles under "weather adverse"conditions..!;^) (Hey - where WERE all the 20Vs that were
coming??!!)

- Chris White and family actually won a Gift Certificate from Ian's - congrats!! Now you can buy that new water pump that started leaking after "someone" drove your car:-)

- Barry Lenoble. It is always a revelation to be on the track with you in the instructors group sessions. You are the only person who is half a mile behind me entering the front straight - and a half a mile in FRONT of me when I exit the front straight. Which is even stranger when you consider that the entire front straight is only a half a mile??

And finally - to Todd Serota... You are perhaps the finest skilled driver I've ever witnessed on the track. Notice, no smiley face. I mean it. As well - you run one hell of an event. It' my honor to be associated with you...

And to all the rest - my thanks for making this event so successful. Whether I mentioned you above, or met you at this event - each shares my personal gratitude and thanks...

Best to all...!

John D.
