The "I Love You" Virus

Many organizations are being deluged with a virus which is spreading rather quickly called the "I Love You" Virus. In fact - this server has been hit with it over 600 times in the past 4 hours alone...

In short - if you receive an e-mail with an e-mail with a vbs attachment - DO NOT OPEN IT - especially if you use Outlook/Outlook Express. In short - what the virus (a script) does -is corrupt MP3 and JPEG files on users' hard drives, as well as mIRC. It also appears to reset the default start page for Internet Explorer and may cause data corruption within the hard disk.

Given the severity of the problem (especially that I run a large e-mail list server!), the Rennlist Server has been programmed to DELETE any mail that may look suspicious at all - including text strings, attachments, scripts, etc. Therefore, if you are discussing this virus on the list - you may notice one of your posts do not get delivered - as you tripped a server trigger. Sorry for the inconvenience - but I would rather be overly cautious then shut the systems down (which many e-mail providers have done).
